Rick and Morty

Last week marked the ‘end’ of one of the most intriguing cartoons that the world has ever seen. Rick and Morty is an inter dimensional, science-based, yet comical TV show.  Rick and Morty is not new to the internet spotlight.

Last week McDonald’s re-released a promotional sauce. McDonald’s had been under lots of pressure from fans of Rick and Morty. After the main character, Rick Sanchez, depicted the sauce as “delicious, but then they [McDonald’s] got rid of it and now it’s gone, this is the only place we’re going to try it is in my head!”

Szechuan Teriyaki dipping sauce, and fans of the TV show went crazy for it. Most of the restaurants were sold out within minutes after the sauce was released. You may wonder why the sauce is important- it’s because the sauce is boss. In the TV show, Rick (the main character) says “I’m driven by finding that McNugget sauce, I want the Mulan McNugget sauce!” The original Mulan Szechuan Teriyaki Dipping Sauce was a promotion from the 1998 Disney movie, Mulan.

Now that Rick and Morty and its memes are gracing the front page of Reddit, a small fraction the fans have become incredibly annoying. They have stated that Rick and Morty requires superior intelligence to understand. Often the fans are the butt of jokes about superior intellect.

The Rick and Morty copypasta refers to how an average Rick and Morty fan would respond to any criticism about their favorite TV show. So someone created the Rick and Morty cancerous fan copypasta.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics, most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course, they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humor in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, I DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo.  And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

While Rick and Morty is an intelligent show featuring many different and complex plot devices, dimensions, universes, and multiples of the same character, it does not require a PHD to understand.

Rick and Morty is a good show, and you should watch it”
